Practical Information for students
The programme mainly has two different types of sessions: the inspiration & knowledge sessions and the project sessions. Both help you to work towards the final project and develop your competencies. Furthermore, we have a kick-off at the beginning, a poster market half-way and the CTRL+N event at the end. All sessions will end with individual reflection time.
We start the programme with a kick-off for you to get to know each other and the programme.
Guest teachers are asked to deliver a workshop, a field trip and a lecture. They do this withing three or two separate sessions which build on each other. Teachers are free to interpret the main question and decide from which perspective they approach it. Preferably the perspectives are tied to the SPECTRE framework (social, political, economic, cultural, technological, relational and ecological).
The workshop gives you hands-on experience with regeneration in Rotterdam. Learning by doing is the key. Under the guidance of the teacher you can create something and get timely feedback from your peers and/or the teacher. The activities in the workshop aim to develop one or more of the competencies and are a stepping stone towards the main project.
The fields trip give you the experience of what regeneration could be in Rotterdam. You visit a project, experiment or other place where this is visible. The teachers shows you which stakeholders are involved, how they approached their challenge, how the project came about, what the process has been like and what lessons they have learned.
The lectures give you theoretical knowledge about the specific domain of the teacher. It can be both academic as well as non-academic knowledge. We encourage interaction and participation.
The sessions of the guest teachers are inspiration and input for your main project, especially for the research part.
Additionally you and your group get assigned to one of the guest teachers (depending on your topic) and have 2 individual coaching sessions with them to specifically talk about the content and research of your project. They will help you take on new perspectives, connect you with their network in the city and encourage you to go beyond your comfort zone.
Half way the programme you and your group present a poster on the poster market on which you show your research and what you have done so far. You get to share feedback with peers and teachers which help you to define next steps. Further details on what the poster should contain will follow.
The project sessions are facilitated by Almar and Zina and support the main project. These are very practical sessions which guide you through the research and design process of the final deliverable: the learning experience. They also include self-coaching activities with your group to navigate your group process.
Additionally you and your team can have 2 coaching sessions with Zina or Almar to help you with the design of your learning experience.
This is the final event in which you facilitate your learning experience.
Below you can find a general overview of the timeline of this Honors Program.
More detailed information about each session will be gradually added to the calendar on the main page or will be published on Canvas. However this platform will be used as a main resource in EHP
